Day 1 1/3/17 - I Get An Early Start

This is my 4th year of travels, and my 3rd in my Prius.  If you have questions for me please pass them along and I will answer them.  You can post your questions to the blog or send a private message to my email.

Wintertime makes for some interesting weather maps.  Above this Intellicast current conditions says I will be driving in the rain for many hours today as I head south.

The reason I chose today to leaves day early was it provided me mild temperatures as I drive through the first cold front.  The second cold front will come through Wednesday pm with below freezing temperatures.

My goal is to be able to take I20 across TX before the next storm system hits that state.  If it is stormy in Northern TX I will head south to cross TX on I10, but this is a much longer route.

I was communicating with a new member of Cheap RV Living that will be traveling to the Rubber Tramp Rendezvous (RTR) and I told her that the biggest issue of traveling from the east coast is the weather. In fact it is important to be able to read weather maps and radar loops.

So after my 8:00 am Dentest appointment and a quick visit to say goodbye to mom I was on my way and plan to stay in VA tonight while it is still in the 40's.

It was 34 degrees with light rain / drizzle in town as I left and side roads were slippery.

With a stop in Danbury, CT for my Ice Tea  fix and bathroom break, and later for fuel at a Flying J truck stop outside of Harrisburg, PA, I drove to VA for the night covering about 550 miles.

350 miles were in the rain.

I made dinner this evening in my Prius using my new rice cooker that runs on 12 volts.  I did this while fumbling around getting used to this Prius Vandwelling again.
