Day 24 - First Hike / Laundry / Movie

I got my first hike in on my trip on king Canyon Trail.  When I first got here I didn't feel the motivation and a group hike for Tucson came up on MeetUp for tomorrow that looked just right.  I needed to get myself in gear and do a short hike of medium difficulty today and check all my equipment so I can do the longer medium difficulty tomorrow.

Today I limited myself to 4.5 miles with a 922 ft elevation gain.  Tomorrow will be 8 miles and about 1000 ft elevation gain again.

I prefer to hike early morning getting going when the sun has just come up.  It's cooler as it was going to be in the 80's again today

Closer on my way back getting warmer.

Wild flowers along the way.

This afternoon it was time to do the laundry.  I still had a card with money loaded on it from last year.

When I was cooking lunch today I had to switch to my last tank if butane.  Seeing that I will be going to BLM land later this week out in the desert I got an extra bottle of butane as I will be boiling more water.

I went to Walmart and they didn't have any so I went to Ace hardware and they didn't carry it.  They suggested the local sports shop and they had it.

I like the way the gas stove cooks.

I took in a movie that stated at 5:00 pm.  I went to see Tge Wedding Ringer.  It was very funny and it was fun to listen to the people laugh in the theater.

Back at base camp my friend Dan and I got to talk for awhile about another man who was vandwellingast year that got sick and is now in a home.  Dan kept an eye on him.  There are different kinds of communities.  Vandwelling is on of them. Each in our own way look out for the others and offer assistance.

  1. Hi Brent, do you have room for detergent in your Prius (maybe something small like Tide Pods?) or do you buy whatever is available at the laundromat? Thx.

    1. Bryce,

My 2015 travels I carried Detergent pods. I bought the small zip loc bag of them at Walmart. This year I paid for the powder box as I washed. At $.75 to $1.00 per individual purchase carrying the pods is the best approach.

I had room to carry the small bag of pods on the rear passenger floor.

By the way I have the WeatherTec liners in the front and the full side to side over the hump one in the back.

      Brent
