Brent’s Travels - 2018 Travel Ends

Monday, April 30 th was my last day on my 2018 Travels.  I woke at 5:00 and I had decided I would head home as soon as I could.  I said goodbye to my son and family the night before.

I was on the road by 5:40 am heading north to Home in Massachusetts.  It was a cold Day with lots of clouds and drizzle in New Jersey and rain as I entered Connecticut.  The above photo was taken coming into Danbury, CT on I84.

Although I ran into some traffic on the Garden State Parkway, the ride was good.  I planned to stop at McDonalds in Danbury but when I arrive there were long lines as a bus of seniors had pulled in before me.  I chose to continue on.  

I then thought I would stop at McDonalds in Spencer, MA.  When I arrived it was under construction, so I kept moving on.  7.5 hours after leaving MD I was home.



I didn’t mess with taking the camper off the truck until Tuesday.  I’m going to park the camper in my garage to work on it.



There’s my camper on the wooden stand I got with the camper.  It wasn’t too bad getting it off by myself.  I had put it on by myself when I left too.



I decided to fix my temporary hold down I put in when I was in Utah after the original bolt broke.  Note in the picture above that this eyebolt was not a closed, welded or cast, sobthe stress of the turnbuckle opened the eye a bit sine I made the repair.

I had bought bolts to replace the eyebolt but hadn’t done it as the temporary solution was still workingZ

Come to find out, when I bought bolts in the Ace Hardware Store in Blanding, UT, I bought the sizes they had. 1-1/2” long and 2” long.  The reality is that the bolt needed to be 1-3/4” long.  To solve this I shortened the bolt by cutting a 2” with a hack saw and then tapering the tough threads with a file.  Above is the finished solution.  2” would have worked but it would make gettingvthe turnbuckle hook into the hole.

I have a few things I need to do with the truck and camper now that I am home.  I have some brake noises in the front end and a vibration somewhere.  The camper doesn’t need much but I will be taking out my clothing and food, of course, but there are things I brought that I didn’t use and I will be removing items to get down to basics.

I haven forgotten about those of you looking for my honest comparison between the Class B I used on my first year and my Prius I used years 2,3,&4, and the Tacoma/FWC camper.  This will take a bit of time to finalize by thoughts as I’m trying to be as objective as possible.

I will share my Milage and costs for this year too.

Lastly, I will post things I didn’t get to and changes and fixes I make.
